Day # 7 of our Med cruise, 5th port stop, docked into La Spezia with options to get to Pisa or Florence. We chose to go into Pisa for a nice half day excursion. The walk to the station took about 20 minutes, and the train ride to Pisa was about 45 minutes.
We were able to get tickets to climb the Leaning Tower of Pisa. It was a very tiring climb and with the lean we could feel some parts being more steep than others. Add to that going around in circles made things pretty disorienting, but the view was worth it. There was a last level that people could climb going up a ladder and it was totally open with just a thin railing up at the top. Plus, with the lean and the height it made it very scary. I had a hard enough time being at the second to last level and I just couldn't do it. Tyler and everyone else in our group did it though, and they did say it was pretty scary. I thought they were crazy!
We had a nice walk back to the train station. We also ate lunch at a great restaurant on the way back. Tyler and I got pizza, so he loved saying that he ate a piece of Pisa pizza. :)
